What is special education law?

Special education law is a legal framework designed to ensure that students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) tailored to their unique needs. This includes the right to be educated in the least restrictive environment (LRE), access to necessary accommodations, specialized instruction and related services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and more.

At Shefter Law, we specialize in navigating these legal waters, helping families understand and advocate for the educational rights of their children. We guide our clients through the processes of obtaining appropriate individualized education programs (IEP), 504 Plans, and resolving disputes through mediation or Due Process if necessary.
